Russia announces thwarting an attack on a town known to enrich uranium



 Today, Thursday, the Russian Federal Security Service announced that it had thwarted an attack on communications stations in a town known for producing enriched uranium, belonging to the Siberian region.

Russian Information Agency quoted the agency as saying that the attempt occurred in Zelenogorsk town in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia.

The agency added that the agency arrested two people belonging to a group known as "citizens of the USRR" who were planning to bomb communications stations belonging to the state company "Rostelecom" for communications and the company "Transtelekom" for communications.

Various groups are called "citizens of the USRR", and the Russian Ministry of Justice classified them as extremists in 2022.

Zelenogorsk is home to just over 65,000 citizens of the Krasnoyarsk region in Siberia and has been carrying out uranium enrichment activities since the Soviet era for the benefit of the nuclear program. The town remains closed and entry requires a special permit.
