The White House: Biden Will Continue Efforts to Free Hostages and Extend Truce in Gaza

Source: The News

According to a spokesperson from the White House, the United States is actively collaborating with Qatar, Egypt, and Israel to extend the humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip. President Joe Biden remains deeply engaged in these efforts to extend the truce and secure the release of detainees. However, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has not provided a list of the names of the "hostages," which is necessary to facilitate the extension of the truce.

American officials, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, believe that international pressure and the increasing number of casualties may compel Israel to halt the war earlier next year. The failure to extend the temporary truce in Gaza, which lasted for seven days, was condemned by international and human rights organizations on Friday. The truce ended in the early hours of Friday morning, and the Israeli occupation army resumed intense raids on several areas in the Gaza Strip.

The humanitarian truce was implemented on November 24 after the continuation of the Israeli attack, which began on October 7 in response to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. The attack resulted in the death of over 15,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left more than 36,000 injured. The truce, brokered by Qatar with the support of Egypt and the United States, facilitated the exchange of Israeli prisoners held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons and allowed for the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged Strip.
