Israeli airstrikes overnight "completely destroyed" hundreds of buildings in Gaza
Mahmoud Basal, the civil defense's media director, told Agence France-Presse, "Hundreds of buildings and houses have been completely destroyed and thousands of units have been damaged," adding that the intensive Israeli shelling has altered the "landmarks of Gaza and the northern governorate."
Witnesses reported that the majority of the strikes were concentrated in areas surrounding Al-Shifa Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital located in the Jabalia area in northern Gaza.
The bombardment created craters in the streets and leveled numerous buildings to the ground in the area.
Israeli warplanes launched a massive and intense attack on various areas in the Gaza Strip throughout the night, causing the telecommunication network in Gaza to be cut off.
The Israeli military stated that 100 fighter jets participated in the aerial bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip, with reports indicating that it was the "most intense and largest" since the start of Israeli military operations in the territory after October 7th.
Reports indicated that Israeli airstrikes mainly targeted the eastern areas of the strip. Widespread destruction affected most parts of the city of Gaza and its suburbs, as well as many areas extending throughout the strip.
Up to 190,000 housing units were partially damaged, while around 29,000 housing units were either completely damaged or no longer fit for habitation, according to reports from the Gaza Strip as of the end of Thursday.
The intense Israeli shelling in the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of at least 7000 people, with approximately 18,500 people sustaining varying degrees of injuries, ranging from serious to moderate to light.
The Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip also led to the displacement of up to 1.5 million Palestinians out of the 2.4 million living in the besieged Gaza Strip.
