Russia seeks to form an axis with China to confront the West
The head of the Russian National Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, said that the Russian leadership wants to form an axis with Beijing to confront the West.
Patrushev said, during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Moscow, that in light of the "dual containment campaign" of Russia and China pursued by the West, deepening cooperation between the two countries in the international arena is of particular importance.
He stressed that "it is important that Russia and China's approaches to the fundamental issues of the modern world order and major international problems are identical or convergent."
He also reaffirmed Moscow's support for Beijing on several issues, including Taiwan and Xinjiang, "which the West uses to discredit China," as he put it.
Although China asserts that it is neutral in Russia's war on Ukraine, Western countries are demanding that China take a clearer position and not strengthen its relationship with Moscow.
He revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Beijing next October, to hold discussions with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
Patrushev added: We look forward to detailed bilateral talks between Putin and Xi Jinping next month in Beijing.
Chinese President invited his Russian counterpart to participate in the third session of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.
