A Russian air attack on Kiev precedes Blinken's arrival in the city



 Ukrainian army announced that it shot down 7 Russian cruise missiles over the capital, Kyiv, hours before US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in the capital on an unannounced two-day visit.

The military administration of the Ukrainian capital said via Telegram that Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv early Wednesday, at a time when the country's air defense systems shot down all the missiles before they reached their targets.

The head of the military administration in Kyiv, Serhiy Popko, stated via Telegram that, according to preliminary information, there was no destruction in Kyiv and there were no human casualties.

For its part, emergency services indicated that agricultural equipment was burning, and a fire that broke out in a store was controlled, and confirmed that there were no deaths or injuries.


Bombing of Odessa

In Odesa, southern Ukraine, the Ukrainian army said that its air defenses were able to shoot down 15 Russian drones out of 25 that targeted the area, and it was announced that a worker at the grain export ports on the Danube River was killed as a result of the Russian attacks that have been continuing for 3 days.

The Russian Ministry of Defense published pictures that it said were of raids launched by Su-25 fighter jets on Ukrainian forces’ positions in Odesa. The local governor, Oleg Kabir, said that Russian forces “attacked Izmail in the Odessa region with marches for more than 3 hours,” noting that one of them was killed. Agricultural workers in the area.

The commander of the Ukrainian ground forces said that the situation on the eastern front is still difficult and that Russia has not abandoned its plans to reach the borders of Donetsk and Lugansk.


Blinken's visit

On the political level, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Kyiv today, Wednesday, for a two-day visit, as he will spend the night in Ukraine for the first time since before the war broke out in February 2022.

American Secretary will hold a series of discussions with several Ukrainian officials, led by President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

A senior US State Department official said in a press conference that Blinken will likely announce a new US aid package worth more than one billion dollars.
