Russian security finds traces of explosives on board a foreign grain ship

On a ship that was sailing from Turkey to the Russian port of Rostov to carry grain, the Russian Federal Security Service reported today, Monday, that it had discovered evidence of explosives.

In a statement released today, the security service said that the ship had berthed in the Ukrainian port of "Kilia" in May and may have been used to transport explosives to Ukraine.

He emphasized that the ship had a new name and a crew made up of 12 Ukrainians when it was in the Turkish port of Tuzla in July.

Additionally, the statement said that "these circumstances may point to the potential for using the foreign civilian ship to deliver explosives to Ukrainian territory."

He claimed that after being stopped from completing its journey in the Kerch Strait and being searched, the ship—whose name was withheld—left Russian territorial seas.

This comes after Russia said last Monday, July 17, that the arrangement for the export of grains through the Black Sea, which allowed the movement of food to various parts of the world, had been suspended.

At the time, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, stated that the contract had ceased and that Moscow was prepared to resume negotiations once the Russian portion of it had been carried out.

To alleviate the global food crisis, Turkey, the United Nations, Russia, and Ukraine negotiated a deal in Istanbul in July 2022 to restore grain supplies from Ukrainian ports that had been temporarily halted following the commencement of the Russian war on Ukraine in February 2022.

Since last August, more than 30 million metric tons of grain and other supplies have been shipped from Ukraine thanks to the arrangement, which has been repeatedly extended.
