Know about the amount of American aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the war

United States spends billions of dollars annually on aid to various countries around the world to serve various security, economic, and humanitarian interests.

However American spending on foreign aid has taken a different turn since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war. After matters such as combating climate change, combating the coronavirus pandemic, and confronting some of the regimes that the White House classifies as tyrannical were the top priorities for this aid, the Russian war on Ukraine in February 2022 came to change the equation.

After the war, Ukraine quickly accounted for the lion's share of US foreign aid and became the largest recipient of it, which was a precedent, as no European country had taken first place in receiving Washington's aid since World War II when the administration of former US President Harry Truman pumped huge sums to restore... Building the European continent in a plan known as the “Marshall Plan” after the war.

The amount of aid provided by the administration of US President Joe Biden to Kyiv since the beginning of the war until now has reached more than 76.8 billion US dollars, including humanitarian, financial, and military support, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, a German research institute.

This number does not include all US spending related to the war, such as aid provided to Washington's allies related to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The report of the American “PBS” network indicates that this huge amount, which it described as historic, is spent in many areas, as part of it goes to aid the Ukrainian people and institutions, including refugees, law enforcement agencies, and independent broadcasters, but most of it is spent. The Ukrainian army should be armed and trained.

Also according to "BBS", the total US military aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the war amounted to $46.6 billion, which represents 61% of the total US aid to Kyiv.

These are the details of US aid to Ukraine from January 24 to July 31, 2023:

Humanitarian aid:

$3.9 billion (5%)

Economic aid:

$26.4 billion (34%)

Security assistance:

$18.3 billion (24%)

Weapons and military equipment:

$23.5 billion (31%)

Grants and loans to purchase weapons and military equipment:

$4.7 billion (6%)

US military aid to Ukraine includes providing weapons systems, training, and intelligence information that Ukrainian leaders need in their war against Russia, whose army is considered among the most powerful armies in the world.

Many analysts believe that the military aid provided by the United States and other allies to Kyiv played a pivotal role in enabling Ukraine to defend itself and launch a counterattack against Russian forces to regain its territory.

Since the beginning of the war that has been raging for more than a year and a half, the Biden administration has provided or agreed to supply Ukraine with a long list of weapons and advanced defense systems, including Abrams battle tanks, anti-aircraft missiles, warships, and advanced surveillance and radar systems.

US administration sparked much controversy when it agreed last July to supply Kyiv with cluster munitions, which are munitions prohibited from being used by most countries in the world due to their danger to civilians and the environment.

The volume of US military aid to Ukraine is huge if we compare it to the aid provided by Washington to other allied countries that are among the most prominent countries that have benefited from US foreign aid over the past decades, led by Israel, whose value of aid it received from the United States did not exceed $3.3 billion in 2021. Followed - in the same year - by Jordan, with US aid amounting to $1.6 billion, and Egypt, which received $1.3 billion.
