Russia deploys Iskander missiles and an American warning about Ukrainian counterattack
Russia has deployed dozens of Iskander missile systems along the Ukrainian border, while an American general warned that time is running out for the Ukrainian counter-attack with the approach of winter, in conjunction with the continuation of mutual Russian-Ukrainian attacks and deaths on both sides.
Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of the Intelligence Department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, said Russia has deployed 46 Iskander missile systems along the country's borders.
In a press conference in Kyiv yesterday, Sunday, he added that the Russian Iskander systems can launch cruise and ballistic missiles at the country's civilian infrastructure.
The Ukrainian army official said on Friday that Russia bombed the city of Kryvyi Rih in the center of the country with an Iskander-K missile system.
Moscow has repeatedly used Iskander missiles in strikes on Ukrainian targets, and this tactical system can launch conventional or nuclear warheads.
On the ground, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense published pictures saying that its forces in the eastern region targeted an ammunition depot belonging to Russian forces, without clarifying its location.
Ukrainian media reported that this warehouse is located in the Novomayorska district of Donetsk province in the Donbas region. The ministry accused Russian forces of storing ammunition in residential areas.
Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced the downing of a Russian Sukhoi-34 plane in Mykolaiv (south). The Russian Novosti news agency quoted the Donetsk separatists as saying that the Ukrainian forces seized two foreign ships in the port of Mariupol and took their crews hostage.
In Kharkiv, the military administration said that the Ukrainian army destroyed a huge Russian convoy that was heading toward Izyum, while the Ukrainian Air Force Command said that its defenses destroyed 3 Russian fighters, a helicopter, 5 drones, and 4 cruise missiles on Saturday.
Kyiv also announced - today, Monday - that its forces had regained, in a "unique operation", control of an oil and gas extraction platform in the Black Sea that had been controlled by Moscow since 2015, according to a statement by military intelligence in Kyiv.
On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that its forces destroyed an S-300 air defense system at the Ukrainian Chuguev military airport, and shot down 8 Ukrainian drones in several regions, including Luhansk.
Russian Information Agency also quoted the Minister of Defense as saying - today, Monday - that the Russian air defenses shot down a Ukrainian drone over the Kursk region, in the west of the country.
For its part, the military administration in Dnipro stated that a second Russian bombing destroyed the city's airport and the entire nearby infrastructure, and the Severodonetsk region was subjected to intense Russian attacks, according to what the Ukrainian military administration in Luhansk indicated.
On the other hand, US Chief of Staff General Mark Milley warned that his forces have between 30 and 45 days of fighting to expel Russian troops from the areas they have controlled before weather conditions stop the Ukrainian counterattack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced - in his daily speech yesterday evening on social media platforms - that his army achieved progress last week in the Tavria region (south), which includes Zaporizhzhia Province, as well as in the vicinity of the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk Province (east).
Zelensky added that his forces maintain their positions in the Avdiivka and Marinka axis near the city of Donetsk, which is under Russian control, and in the Liman and Kubyansk axis (north).
He pointed out the possibility that his forces would achieve a breakthrough in the coming period, saying, "If we expel them (the Russians) from the south, they will flee."
Moscow denies the statements of Ukrainian officials about the progress of their forces, whether in Zaporizhia or Donetsk, and described the ongoing Ukrainian counterattack since June 4 as a "failure".
