Warsaw deploys additional forces on the border and accuses Minsk and Moscow of arranging a new wave of immigration
Poland accused - on Monday - Belarus and Russia of arranging a new massive migration wave to destabilize the border.
Polish Deputy Interior Minister Mateh Vasek said that the border guards asked the Ministry of Defense to send another 1,000 soldiers to the border, adding that it was "an operation arranged by the Russian and Belarusian special services."
For his part, the head of the Polish Border Guard unit, Tomasz Braga, stated that the Belarusian services had turned into "a regular criminal group that organizes irregular migration."
He pointed out that 19,000 immigrants have tried to enter Poland since the beginning of this year, compared to 16,000 in 2022.
Braga revealed that a "record" was set last July, with more than 4,000 people attempting to cross the border.
Warsaw and Western countries accuse Minsk of encouraging and organizing the flow of migrants by promising to facilitate their entry into the European Union.
The government of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko denied the matter, accusing Poland of treating the migrants inhumanely.
Relations between Minsk and Moscow improved further after the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, as Belarus provided its lands to the Russian army, and shared with Russia exposure to Western pressure and sanctions, although it did not participate directly in the war.
More than a week ago, the Polish News Agency reported that the army was moving military forces to the east of the country on the border with Belarus, and attributed these reinforcements to potential security threats related to the Russian private military group Wagner.
Recently, Belarus confirmed the deployment of fighters from the Wagner Group on its territory and said that they had begun training its army.
Poland had sent thousands of soldiers to help border guards confront the migrants and passed a law allowing the return of migrants to Belarusian lands. It also set up a special area at the border closed, even to humanitarian non-governmental organizations and the media, which drew condemnation from human rights organizations.
